How to Play Combination and Way Tickets
Way Tickets are essentially the casinos "way" (no pun intended) to get gamblers to make more bets with a single keno ticket. It is also a way for you to cover more of the numbers. Let's say you want to bet on twelve numbers. Not only can you bet on twelve numbers, but you can split those twelve numbers into groups that can be bet on individually and combined together in various ways. For instance, let's say you want to separate your twelve numbers into three groups of four. This means that you can make up to seven different bets (seven different ways) on this single Way Ticket. Here is how the bets would look:

Way 1: All twelve Numbers

Way 2: Group 1 (4 numbers), called a 4-spot

Way 3: Group 2 (4 numbers)

Way 4: Group 3 (4 numbers)

Way 5: Group 1 & 2 (8 numbers)

Way 6: Group 1 & 3 (8 numbers)

Way 7: Group 2 & 3 (8 numbers)

Looking at the above ways, if you were to bet any of the 4-spot groups (Way 2, 3 or 4) you are placing a standard Way Ticket. If you combine any of the three 4-spots to make an 8-spot or 12-spot, you are now playing what is called a combination ticket.

To place either ticket, it is advised that you create your groups out of numbers that are close to one another on the grid. Begin by making an X through the numbers you want to play. Then, separate each group by drawing a circle around each individual set of numbers. You will then indicate how many ways you would like to play these groups of numbers. If we continue with the current example of twelve numbers, you would write (in the far-right margin of the ticket) 1/12 (for one 12-spot), 3/8 (for three 8-spots), and 3/4 (for three 4-spots). Underneath these numbers you will write in how much you want to bet for each way by simply writing the dollar amount, followed by the word "Way". If we are going to make $1 bets on our ticket, it would say $1.00/Way. Since we are betting on seven different ways for this particular ticket, that means the total bet is $7, which should be the last thing written on the ticket - in the upper-right-hand corner.
