Affiliate sites in sigs / postsWOL doesn't seem to allow sigs, ie. no site spamming in posts. I highly approve of that.
What does WOL feel about this being circumvented by site links simply being placed in each individual post, creating the same effect as an affiliate site sig link? I'm not sure this should be tolerated.
Example
Somewhat tight-arse of me maybe, but I see this as circumventing the rules, particularly if it's a newbie who's not adding much content and might be simply spamming. I recall a previous newbie was picked up on this, and after losing their affy sig they totally vanished.

Ok, the thing with sigs is that we _do_ allow them but not if:
- the user is a newbie in which case they have to pass the probationary period before they'll have access to the sig feature.
- the user abuses their sig privileges (eg. junko posts just to get their sig up as often as possible) in which case their access to the sig feature is suspended.
I'm sorry if that means that now you'll disapprove but such are the fickle winds of the web, no?
To answer your question specifically, hacking in a sig when you don't yet have access to the sig feature is a bit of a low-life thing to do but I tend to shrug it off UNLESS it's something like the case you pointed out (user posting trash posts just to get their "hacked" sig up AND it was a spammy sig to boot). In a case like that the user's posts get deleted, they get suspended, AND they get the sig feature permanently disabled, or at least until they can demonstrate their willingness to play by the rules.
An unfortunate reality here at WOL is that a lot of people sign on solely for the purpose of spamming. To that end I look forward to the day when the message board system allows us to disallow links in newbie posts entirely. Until that day we welcome the membership to point out abuses, such as you did, and thereby help us do our job.

The short reply is "I agree with you". And appreciate the support you've shown through changing your sig.
However, I'd like to suggest an alternate approach, something that we use in the BILLBOARD and PROMOS forums: report the abuse!
On every post, on the bottom left, is a little '!' in a red and white triangle. If you click on that I get a "Bad Post" report directly. You can even leave a comment if you like. Just say "sig abuse" and I'll be alerted to the problem faster than you can send me a PM.
This way the abusers get dealt with and everyone else is free to use their sigs. I'd much rather punish the bad guys than take something away from everybody because of it's _potential_ for abuse.
