Baccarat Code of ConductBaccarat Code of Conduct
Just like in craps, there is something different that the land-based version baccarat offers than its online cousin. Since baccarat is a game of large stakes and sophistication, there is understandably a code of conduct and etiquette that all gamblers should follow when playing baccarat in the casino.
The very first thing you should know is how to dress. You may have the largest bankroll in the world - But if you are not appropriately dressed, meaning you are wearing a tank top and sandals, there is a good chance you will be asked to leave or come again when dressed more formally (Look around the baccarat room at other players to get an idea of what it means to dress up).
Once you are admitted in the baccarat room, you should wait a few moments before sitting down at just any table. The reason is that it is best to sit down at a table where a shoe is either just begun or almost finished. In some casinos, you may find only a couple of active tables, which should speed up your choice somewhat. The thing to keep in mind is not to immediately crash a table and ask what the minimum bet is. (If you do not know the minimum, and have to ask, you may get labeled as a newbie who does not know what they are getting into). Instead, do some observing to being with and you will see the minimum stakes posted at each table.
After sitting at a table, it is standard protocol to smile at other players. However, formal introductions are taking it too far. Keep to yourself and do not pry. Light banter will naturally take place as the game progresses. As for placing your bets, this one is too easy: Wait until the dealer says "Place your bets". On a similar note, wait until all the other players have been divvied their winnings at the end of the hand before taking your own winnings back. Remember, Baccarat is a very slow game, giving you plenty of time to act.
Unless you are familiar with handling the shoe (see the article below), you should politely decline it. Do not worry, for it will just be offered to the next player. If no players want the shoe, the dealer will handle it by default. However, we advise to take a few moments to learn about handling the shoe, for it looks like you know what you are doing, and other players at the table will appreciate you doing so.
If you need to use the restroom or take a short break, it is perfectly fine to leave your chips in place. Do not worry one bit, for the dealer will watch over your stack. Speaking of the dealer, be sure to tip him or her. Remember, if you are playing baccarat in the casino to begin with, you will be thought of one who can afford to tip. You may even make a side bet for the dealer, which is always fun.
