How to Play a Top/Bottom Ticket

How to Play a Top/Bottom Ticket
When looking at a keno ticket, you will notice that the grid of numbers is split into two even sectors - one thru forty and forty-one thru eighty. The primary reason casinos do this is so gamblers can play Top or Bottom Tickets. Unlike Straight Tickets, these are not wagers on specific numbers. Rather, Top/Bottom Tickets are bets on one-half of the grid of numbers.

What this means is that you are betting on which half of the ticket will get more winning numbers. If you play a "Top" ticket, you are betting the top half of the ticket (1 thru 40) will hit more winners. Conversely, if you play a "bottom" ticket, you are betting the bottom half of the ticket (41 thru 80) will hit more winners.

To fill out a standard Top/Bottom Ticket, first write in your stake amount in the top-right corner of the ticket. Then draw a line thru the small space that divides the top and bottom grid of numbers. Lastly, mark a large "T" over the top grid of numbers or a large "B" over the bottom grid of numbers, depending on which half you think will catch more winning numbers.

Some casinos will even let you bet on the left or right side of the grid of numbers. This would entail drawing a straight line starting between the five and six, and dividing the grid all the way down between the 75 and 76. You would then mark an "L" over the left side of the ticket or an "R" over the right side of the ticket, dictating which side you think will draw more winning numbers.

Another version of Top/Bottom Tickets are what most casinos call a top and bottom ticket. This wager is predicting that either half of the ticket will catch more than 12 numbers and less than 8 numbers. In other words, if one-half catches more than 12, the other half will have to catch less than 8 since there are twenty drawn numbers. If either half catches 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12 numbers, the top and bottom ticket loses.

To fill out a Top and Bottom Ticket, write in your wager amount in the top-right corner of the ticket and draw a line between the top and bottom grid of numbers, as well as a "T" over the top-half of numbers and a "B" over the bottom half of numbers.
